The Hot Mess Line
What counts as a hot mess?
If you’ve ever actually said “I’m a hot mess right now,” it probably counts.
- You go on in twenty minutes and you’ve suddenly decided you have no business being there.
- You can’t eat, and the show is in an hour.
- Somebody offered you the gig. You’ve been not-replying for four days.
- The thing you wanted for six months is finally in front of you, and today seemed like the day to clean the refrigerator.
- You had a terrible set.
- You had a great set, and somehow that’s worse.
- You’ve typed the first line and deleted it enough times to know it by heart.
- Your brain has fourteen tabs open and music is playing from one of them and you can’t find which one.
- You’re four hundred miles from anybody who knows your name.
- You’ve walked around the same decision for three days.
- Nothing is wrong. You just need another human for a minute.
- You’re stuck, and you’d honestly take a ridiculous assignment involving a spoon.
Good enough for us.
Hot Mess was built with performers, musicians, dancers, comics, writers, makers and crew in mind. But the phrase is ordinary on purpose. You don’t need a diagnosis or some dramatic reason to call.
The Hot Mess Line opens when the bench is ready. Before the first Hot Mess call, we are building the Spotter bench, orientation, handoff resources, routing, insurance, and enough founding support to cover the opening infrastructure.
Want to help us get the line running? We’d love to hear from future Spotters, partners, sponsors, and people who want to help build the bench. Call or text Circus Folk: 602-935-PLAY.
